The latest edition of Scars (a horror magazine) includes an interview with me and the mag’s editor in chief and founder, Raymond Dowaliby. Why would a publication like Scars want to talk to me? I was sort of wondering the same thing until Ray and I connected on the phone. “There’s a lot more to horror, than slasher films and monsters,” he said early in the conversation. “Horror can be found in the very real things people do to each other every day.” And *click* like that Ray and I were vibing and going back and forth, for over an hour, about Gunplay, American history, American horror stories and the genre’s ability to paint a stark portrait of who we are as a country.
Here’s a preview page (click to enlarge):

The magazine has just become available at Barnes & Nobles and 2000 limited edition copies have a Gunplay #0 tucked inside of them!

A quick flashback to the NY Comic Con a couple of weeks ago. I joined Saurav Mohapatra from Virgin Comics and David Brothers from PopCultureShock.com as part of a documentary on “creators of color in the comic biz”. Check out the video by Luis Medina.

Caught this over at Variety.com. Now can we get to talking about a Gunplay flick, Platinum?
Brandon Routh is returning to the world of comicbook heroes.
The “Superman Returns” star will topline “Dead of Night,” based on the bestselling Italian comicbook series “Dylan Dog,” for Hyde Park and Platinum Studios.

I’ll be chilling at the Platinum/Arcana booth this weekend, May 10-11th, as part of Seattle’s Emerald City Comic Convention. Keep an eye out for Gunplay colorist, Nei Ruffino, too. She’ll be repping her folks over at the Zenoscope booth, though she secretly wants to hang with me at my table.
You can find more detailed in HERE.

The doors are now officially open, folks. Platinum has updated the Comic Book Challenge site and added a new “Enter” page. Read the rules carefully (lots of changes from last year) and get submitting!
Remember, this guy? Could be you.
As always, if you’ve got any questions and want real answers, you know how to get a hold of me.

Man, I’ve been sick since LA. Weeks and weeks and WEEKS of coughing and hacking and pleghming. It’s been rough. But just when it seemed like it couldn’t possibly get any worse… I decided to throw in some idiocy.
I’d made some soup a couple of weeks back, in the early stages of my personal plague. Well, last Tuesday I decided to eat some of it. My wife calls me in Pittsburgh on Thursday, just after I’d landed, and says “Jorge, did you eat that soup the other night? Cause I just pulled the last of it from the fridge and it’s covered in moldy fur.” So that explained why one of the lymph nodes in my neck had swollen to the size of a small possum.
I kid you not… it looked like I had Kuato hanging from my neck.

Well, even with an extreme neck melon hanging, the
Pittsburgh Comic Con proved to be a blast. Dom and I sold a MESS of
Gunplay trades, made lots of new friends and fans, and experienced one of the most raucous dinner parties of the year at
DJ Coffman’s house. It started innocently enough– with spinach dip, ziti and quiet chit chat. Things really didn’t start sliding downhill until the
Digital Pimps (
Joe Dunn,
Phil Chan,
Irv Fabore) brought in the PS3 and
ROCK BAND while Calista Coffman pouring libations for all the guests. That’s when the magic eagle landed.
Friday night’s performance of Bon Jovi’s “WANTED”

Jorge (lead guitar), Phil (drums), Bob (floor vocals)

Intense back to back rocking.
I’ll post more on the Pittsburgh trip later today. Gotta run and start getting ready for our FREE COMIC BOOK DAY appearances this weekend!
